ABOUT THE MERINO USED BY NURTURED BY NATURE

Nurtured by Nature uses 100% New Zealand grown Merino wool. Merino has received a surge in popularity in the last few years because of its excellent inherent properties. Merino grown in different parts of the world feel differently. Nurtured by Nature think that the merino grown in New Zealand is best.

Nurtured by Nature garments are fully fashioned. This level of quality is usually only associated with adult's clothing. Instead of buying merino fabric and cutting and sewing a pattern our yarn is knitted to the shape of the garment and then linked together. Much like how you would traditionally hand knit a garment. A sign of luxury and high quality. Wool and Babies? Try and forget everything you know about wool for a start. Superfine merino is all you need to remember, then examine the unique qualities of the fabric and feel it for yourself.

THE QUALITIES OF MERINO ARE:

  • These garments can be MACHINE-WASHED AND TUMBLE-DRIED. A special process is applied to continually control shrinkage within acceptable tolerance standards.
  • Merino shades retain their colour 'bloom' and lustre. With continual washing and wear, merino does not loose its depth of colour or fade like other natural fibres.
  • Merino avoids holding body odour. Being a natural, breathable fibre it does not trap bacteria and also resists static electricity build up, unlike synthetics.
  • Merino is comfortable to wear without any fibre itch. Our superfine and fine micron- counts ensure absolute softness and the ultimate in wearing comfort.
  • With the merino fibre's natural composition and complexity it easily adapts to the body's temperature in changing conditions, enabling Baby to retain the optimum safe temperature in hot or cold environments.
  • Merino retains its shape and texture, being a natural fibre with crimp springiness.
  • Merino is fire retardant, meaning it will not melt or ignite.

HOW TO CARE FOR MERINO GARMENTS:

  • Use gentle wool detergents. Do not use fabric conditioner or washing powders with enzymes (or anything that says oxy vanish!). This will strip the colour. Choose the gentle machine wash cycle (slow spin) or hand wash in warm water (40°C). Remember to use detergents that are better for the environment and do not contain harmful chemicals. Remember that they are going against your baby's skin.
  • Tumble Dry - low heat. Iron low heat.
  • Do not dry clean, bleach or wring
  • Merino wool is a natural product therefore like all wool (carpets, furniture etc) it may pill. This can be removed with a de-piller comb or machine. After the first couple of times it will stop happening.
