NUK
- Over 50 years of experience and expertise.
The original NUK orthodontic shape was developed over 50
years ago after intensive research by Professor Dr W Balters and Dr A
Muller. By closely mimicking the sucking action of breast-feeding, NUK
teats and soothers encourage the correct oral development for your baby.
NUK teats are used in many maternity hospitals throughout
the UK. In fact, the NUK teat is recommended by 93% of paediatricians
and 87% of midwives.
The NUK teat shape is based on the shape of a mother's
nipple during breast-feeding. This shape encourages your baby to 'work'
for its feed just as if it were feeding from the breast, allowing you
to switch between breast and bottle so you can have all the independence
you need.
- The flat underside of the teat ensures correct positioning
of the tongue encouraging a milking action which helps to widen the
jaw. This allows correct spacing for tooth development.
- The feed hole is directed upwards so the milk is directed
towards the baby's palate and mixes with saliva for good digestion.
- The angled surface supports the upper lip and acts as
an anchor for the milking action of the lower jaw.
- Slender neck allows for an airtight sucking action and
helps prevent the swallowing of air - one of the most
possible cause of the common problem of infant colic.
- Angled surface encourages the baby to make a milking
action with the lower jaw in order to receive its nourishment.
- NUK Air System: All NUK teats have an air vent on the
upper side which compensates for the difference
in air pressure in the bottle. This helps to prevent the teat collapsing
and the baby swallowing air - helping to prevent colic.
British Dental Health Foundation approval
For your extra reassurance, the unique NUK orthodontic shape and NUK Air
System found on all NUK teats and soothers have also been approved by
the British Dental Health Foundation - making NUK the only teat and soother
brand to have its teats and soothers approved.
